100 Main Road, Balik Pulau (10 January 2010)
No. 100, Main Road, Balik Pulau is the oldest and one of the grandest town houses in Balik Pulau. It was built in the late 19th century by the Kapitan Cina, or Chinese community leader, of Balik Pulau, one Mr Chee.
The Chee family was one of the big land owners in Balik Pulau with vast tracts of plantations in the area. The present occupant of 100 Main Road is Mr Khoo Poh Siew, the great-great grandson of the original owner.
No 100 Main Road, Balik Pulau, was a residential town house. It was never used as a shophouse, in that the ground floor has always been used as living quarters.
