Kenya is three hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+3). Traffic is driven on the left, the same as in the United Kingdom. The official languages of Kenya are Swahili and English. The official currency is the Kenyan shilling (KES). The phone IDD code is +254. The electricity is 240V/50Hz.
Kenya has the biggest economy in the East and Central Africa. The estimated 2010 nominal GDP stood at $32.417 billion, equivalent to a per capita nominal GDP of $887. The per capita GDP at purchasing power parity was $1,784.
Kenya was a German protectorate in 1885. When the Imperial British East Africa Company was established in 1888, it created friction with the Germans, until Germany handed over the coastal areas to Britain.
During World War I the governments of British East Africa and German East Africa managed to hammer together a truce, thereby keeping the colonies from warfare. The interior of Kenya was settled by British farmers who grew coffee and tea.
The Republic of Kenya was established on 12 December, 1964. As with many other countries in Africa, Kenya went through periods of political volatility, but perhaps less turbulent compared to some of its neighbors. The last election was deem fair by international observers, and the country appeared on its way in the direction of democracy.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
