Diamantina is a small town that clicks to the slopes of the rocky mountains in Brazil. It was founded by diamond prospectors in the 18th century, and is an outstanding example of human cultural and artistic expression in a challenging environment.
Diamantina was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 23rd session of the World Heritage Committee meeting in Marrakesh, Morocco, from 29 November to 4 December, 1999.
