Coihaique is the capital of the Coihaique Province and Aysén Region in Chile. It is also written as Coyhaique. The city covers 7,290 sq km (2,814 sq mi) and has a population of some 53,000 people (2012 estimate).

In comparison with other cities in Chile, Coihaique is relatively young, having been established in 1929. It is surrounded by the rivers Simpson and Coihaique as well as by snow-covered mountains.

You can reach Coihaique by flight from Santiago. LAN has three flights connecting the Chilean capital with Balmaceda Airport, 40 km from downtown Coihaique.
