Puerto Montt is a seaport in southern Chile. It is the provincial capital of in Llanquihue Province and Los Lagos Region. The city is where Chile's Lake District meets the Pacific Ocean. It covers1,673 sq km (646 sq mi) and has a population of 176,000 (2011 estimate).
Puerto Montt was founded in 1853 and named after the President of Chile at that time, Manuel Montt. The earliest settlers in the town were immigrant Germans on a government-sponsor relocation program.
The economy of Puerto Montt is connected to cattle ranching, farming and aquaculture, particularly the farming of salmon, tilapia, catfish, sea bass, bream and trout. The area has the largest salmon aquaculture farms in the world.

Angelmó Fish Market A bustling place where fish and marine life of all types are brought up from the sea and sold to wholesalers, this fish market is also an attraction in its own right.
Campanario de los Jesuitas 19th century Jesuit complex that is today a national monument. The complex features a bell tower, a Jesuit college and the Jesuit church built in 1872.
Museo Municipal Juan Pablo II City museum of Puerto Montt, named in honor of Pope John Paul II, who celebrated mass there in 1987.
Plaza Buenaventura Martínez The main public square of Puerto Montt, first built in 1853, and has been renovated a few times since.
