National Blood Centre, Kuala Lumpur (8 July, 2016)
National Blood Centre (GPS: 3.17314, 101.70646), or Pusat Darah Negara, is an organisation under the Ministry of Health Malaysia. Located on Jalan Tun Razak, near Hospital Kuala Lumpur, it traces its history to the founding of a blood bank by women volunteers of the British Red Cross in 1955. In the beginning, the blood bank was located within the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital. With the growth the blood bank, it was allocated its own building at the hospital in 1971. This was known as the National Blood Service Centre.
The present National Blood Centre was officiated by Datuk Sri Hasmah Mohd Ali, wife of then prime minister, in 2002. The Blood Donation Counter at the National Blood Centre is open Mondays to Fridays from 7:30 am to 8:00 pm, Saturdays from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, and on Sundays from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
