Kedai Kopi Siang Tatt (GPS: 5.32376, 100.2705) is a coffee shop in Sungai Ara. Located just next to the Sungai Ara Market, it does roaring business in the morning, when the market is in session.
As I do not stay in Sungai Ara, I only visit it on and off. Each time I come here, I would see that the coffee shop is very crowded. It is usually very difficult to get a table, and it is not unusual to have to share tables with others.

My visits to Kedai Kopi Siang Tatt
28 October, 2017
My wife and I found ourselves here, when the coffee shop we intended to visit at Taman Sri Nibong was closed (likely due to Nine Emperor Gods Festival), so we drove around and ended up in Sungai Ara instead. It was difficult to find a parking spot, but we finally managed to park near the Sungai Ara river. Walking towards the market, we saw that Kedai Kopi Siang Tatt was the most crowded, and has the most stalls, so we decided to have our breakfast here.
I met up with a Facebook follower of mine, June. Asking her what's good to eat, she said that she wasn't too familiar either, but that the nasi lemak at the corner is very popular. We took a look. Yes, it was very crowded, but the items were running out. So we went back into Kedai Kopi Siang Tatt as we saw an empty table. Having occupied it, I ordered the Koay Kark, Lor Mee and Char Koay Teow.
I had expected the Lor Mee to come with chicken feet. But no, they brought ours as "regular". Nonetheless, the price was RM4.30, which in my opinion, is on the high side, without the chicken feet. Tasting it, my wife pronounced that it was nothing to shout about. Trying it, I would say that the taste is "not bad", but I wouldn't say it is "very good" either. Apart from not having any chicken feet, its "liau" (ingredients) was also quite little. There is no intestines or char siew, which I often find in other Lor Mee. Instead, there is fish ball, which I found to be uncommon for Lor Mee. Nevertheless, I saw that it was going good business, perhaps because the demand for food was so high.

The Koay Kark did not arrive, so I returned to the stall and self-delivered it. It was swiftly prepared for me when I got to the stall, possibly because they were too short handed to send to my table, and were fulfilling the to-go orders first. When I gave the hawker a RM10 note, I got back - if I'm not mistaken - RM7.20. That surprised me, because that means the Koay Kark cost just RM2.80. So cheap? Not sure lah. The portion size is "moderate", so in my opinion, it is the best value for money (on the assumption that I was charged correctly). The taste is quite good, in my opinion. Not "very good" but "quite good".

The Char Koay Teow stall is just next to our table, so we just called out our order sitting down. It too was doing roaring business. The price is RM4.80. The portion size is not much, but then again, that's the portion of Char Koay Teow that I have come to accept lately. In only fills two thirds of the plate. To me, the taste is okay. However, my wife said that the koay teow is quite thin and that it is broken into short strands. She prefered that the koay teow is broader and in longer strands. It did not matter much to me though.

On the whole, I would say that Kedai Kopi Siang Tatt, as well as the other coffee shop in the area, has a "captive market" of people staying in the surrounding neighbourhood. The taste of the food is "not too bad" but I don't think I would make a trip here just for the sake of a meal.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
