Hand roasted gourmet coffee from The Coffee Brewer (23 September 2017)
The Coffee Brewer is a line of hand-roasted gourmet coffee available now from a local enterprise called On The Go. Yesterday, I received a couple of sample packs to try out, hand delivered with a surprisingly long handwritten letter describing the coffee. The Coffee Brewer is a brand of gourmet coffee produced by a Danish company called The Brew Company A/S. Their intention is to make gourmet coffee available for people who are on the go.
To make brewing gourmet coffee possible for people on the go, The Coffee Brewer coffee comes in its own ready-to-use brew bags (shown in my photo above). These brew bags are two-layer packs. The coffee powder is in a filtration sachet within the bag. The brew bag has a re-sealable plastic zipper at the top, and a plastic spout by the side.
To brew coffee, you upzip the brew bag and pour hot water (at 95°C) into the bag. The water passes through the coffee powder sachet into the outer portion of the bag, and can then be poured out from the spout.

The amount of hot water you pour into the bag will determine whether the resulting coffee is mild or strong. To determine this, the brew bag has a water level indicator on the reverse side (see picture above).
As a picture is worth a thousand words, let me show you the whole process mentioned above through a video I found on their Facebook page.
I was given two types of coffee, the medium strong Colombia coffee and the strong Brazil coffee. So far I have tried the Colombia coffee. That's the one that smells nicest to me. I followed the process. But I was too clumsy to pour hot water into the bag, so my wife helped me do it. Looking inside, I saw that the coffee appeared quite diluted after several minutes (we were supposed to brew for 4-8 minutes), so I shaked the bag a little. Seeing some drops of coffee coming out - maybe I didn't seal it properly, or was the bag leaking - I did not know, I took it to the basin and continued shaking the bag there. When I did that, the aroma of the coffee came out, and it was an incredibly pleasant aroma.
As I write this, I have taken two or three sips from the cup. The Colombia coffee that I brewed was strong (I used my tea cup to measure the amount of water I was going to use), and as with many gourmet coffee I have tasted, it has a slight sourish after taste. On the whole, the coffee is great.
The Coffee Brewer's "brewed in the bag" gourmet coffee is a life saver for coffee lovers craving a cup of freshly brewed gourmet coffee. But that would not be me. As much as I love coffee, I am too much of a klutz to use the brew bag. If anyone, I would be the first to make the bag topple over whilst I am pouring hot water into it, and creating a mess with hot water all over the table. If I were to hold the bag, the same clumsy person would likely pour hot water on his hand. I suppose I could open the bag and pour the coffee powder into my home coffee brewer, but then the question would be, why am I paying for brew bags that I would not be using. And many a time, my coffee brewer just sits there because lazy old me decided to make do with instant gourmet coffee.
If you are not as klutzy as me, you love gourmet coffee, and when you travel, you prefer gourmet coffee over the standard hotel room Nescafé, then The Coffee Brewer's hand roasted gourmet coffee is something to add into your luggage.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
