Nykøbing Falster is a small town on the island of Falster in southern Denmark. Located in the Sjælland region, Nykøbing Falster is the administrative seat of the Gulborgsund municipality. Nykøbing Falster, on its own, covers 134 sq km and has a population of about 25,483 (2011 estimate) while the Gulborgsund municipality covers 907 sq km and has a population of 64,000.
Nykøbing Falster is often called Nykøbing F to distinguish it from two other towns called Nykøbing in Denmark. The town has a well preserved Old Town with historic buildings dating back to the 15th century, such as the Nykøbing Falster church which was once the Franciscan monastery.
Also of interest to visitors is the half-timbered Czaren Hus or Tsar's House, which was where the Russian Tsar, Peter the Great, overnighted in 1716. It is also one of the oldest buildings in Nykøbing Falster.

Nykøbing Falster began as a medieval castle back in the 12th century. It received its municipal charter in the early 13th century from Valdemar II. Nykøbing was the administrative seat of the former county of Storstrøm from 1970 until 2006, when a reshuffle of administrative divisions created the municipality of Guldborgsund by merging Nykøbing Falster with Nysted, Nørre Alsslev, Sakskøbing, Stubbekøbing and Sydfalster.
