Aix-les-Bains is a town in the Savoie district, in the region of Rhône-Alpes in southeastern France. It covers 12.62 sq km (4.87 sq mi) and has a population of 27,000 people (2012 estimate).
Aix-les-Bains is located on the eastern part of Lac du Bourget. It occupies the slope leading up to the Tour de L'Angle Est, which is 1,562 m (5,124 ft) tall. The town got its name "Aix", which is derived from the word Aquae meaning water in Latin, because it was a bath during the Roman period.
Among the most popular sights in town is Faure Museum, which has an impressive collection of paintings by Rodin and other Impressionist painters.
