Jurisdiction of Saint-Emilion is an area in Aquitaine, France, devoted to wine growing that is today a World Heritage Site. Wine growing, or viticulture, was introduced here during Roman times. The area benefited from being on the route of the Santiago de Compostela pilgrims, the result of which many churches and monasteries were built there since the 11th century.
Jurisdiction of Saint-Emilion was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 23rd session of the World Heritage Committee held in Marrakesh, Morocco, from 29 November to 4 December, 1999.
