Bad Wiessee is a spa town in Bavaria, Germany. Located close to the border with Austria, Bad Wiessee is in the district of Miesbach, in the administrative region of Upper Bavaria. It covers 32.79 sq km (12.66 sq mi) and has a population of 4,600 people (2012 estimate).
The position of Bad Wiessee as a spa town stems from the discovery of the sulphur fountain by Dutch oil explorer Adriaan Stoop in the early 20th century. The name Bad Wiessee translates roughly as "spa on the western shore of the lake". The lake in question is Tegernsee.
