Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia, is a small city in Germany. Erfurt is located on the southern part of the Thuringian Basin, by the banks of the River Gera. The history of Erfurt goes back to 742 AD, when it appeared as Erphesfurt, making it the oldest town in Thuringia. It was a trading town in the Middle Ages. The Black Death in the 14th century saw an early wave of pogroms against the Jews in Erfurt, when about 100 were rounded up and killed. In 1802, Erfurt became part of the Kingdom of Prussia.
Erfurt has an intact medieval city centre that suffered only limited damage during the Second World War. Its main attractions include the Erfurt Cathedral (also called Mariendom) and the Severikirche. These two sights stand side by side, and together form the icon of the city. The bridge across the Gera, Krämerbrücke, is also another tourist sight in Erfurt.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
