Wetzlar is a charming German city in the district of Lahn-Dill-Kreis, in the administrative region of Gießen, in Hesse, Germany. It covers 75.67 sq km (29.22 sq mi) and has a population of 52,000 people (2012 estimate).

Wetzlar owes its charm to its many well-preserved timber-framed houses. It is one of the towns on the German Timber-Frame Scenic Route (Deutsches Fachwerkstraße). The steep slopes of the streets, with houses huddled to both sides makes Wetzlar particularly picturesque in many places. As with many cities in Germany, it suffered severe devastation during the Second World War but has since been entirely rebuilt.
