At Pythagoreion are Greek and Roman ruins, including a tunnel-aqueduct called the Tunnel of Eupalinos built in the sixth century BC. Heraion of Samos is another ancient site with gigantic free-standing Ionic temples dating to the first phase of construction in the 8th century BC.
Pythagoreion and Heraion of Samos were inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 16th session of the World Heritage Committee meeting in Santa Fe, USA, on 7 - 11 December, 1992.
