Volos is a coastal port city in Greece. It is located in the periphery of Thessaly, and serves as the capital of Magnesia Prefecture. The city is on the Greek mainland, 326 km north of Athens and 215 km south of Thessaloniki.
Volos is at the innermost point of the Pagasetic Gulf. It is at the foot of Mount Pilos. The city serves as the main outlet for the agricultural products of the Thessaly region.
With a population of around 200,000 (2011 estimate), Volos is the third biggest commercial port in Greece. Its economy is also supported by manufacturing, trade, services and tourism.
The area surrounding Volos has been inhabited since antiquity, with ruins of ancient cities such as Demetrias, Pagasae and Iolcos evident. The city was ruled by the Ottomans from the 15th century until 1832, when the Treaty of Constantinople established a Greek independent state.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
