Barberino Val d'Elsa is a town in the province of Florence, in the region of Tuscany in central Italy. It got its name from the valley below it. The town is 373 m (1,224 ft) above sea level. It covers 65.8 sq km (25.4 sq mi) and has a population of over 4,200 people (2012 estimate).
Barberino Val d'Elsa is today a well-preserved town that has retained its medieval fortifications. Within the town center are a number of historic buildings worth visiting, among them the Church of San Bartolomeo and the Church of Sant'Appiano. Also worth a look is the Sienese Gate (Porta Senese) from the 14th century and the Pilgrims' Hospice (Ospedale dei Pellegrini) from 1365.
