Khimki (Russian: Хи́мки) is a city within Moscow Oblast, located to the northwest of downtown Moscow, in Russia. It covers 115.3 sq km (44.4 sq mi) and has a population of 207,000 people (2012 estimate).

Khimki was established in 1939 around the railway station in the area. It is on the railway line between Moscow and Saint Petersburg and is directly adjacent the city limits of Moscow. In 1943, it was the closest German advance to Moscow. A memorial marking that site at Kilometer 23 is today near the local IKEA shopping center and one of the largest shopping malls in Russia.

Today Khimki enjoys the spillover effect of the development of Moscow. This has resulted in the development of residential areas near the Moscow megapolis. It is also near one of the main airports of Moscow, Sheremetyevo, and was once the site for several of the Soviet aerospace defence development centers. These centers today contribute to the International Space Station.

Visiting Khimki

There are trains from Moscow to Khimki. You can also get there by taking the bus or marshrutkas.
