Gimmelwald is a small Swiss hamlet in the mountains of the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland. As of 2011, it has fewer than 200 inhabitants, many of whom are related.
Gimmelwald is one of those pristine car-free villages in the Swiss mountains. It supports itself with cottage industries such as the making of fresh cheeses. It has a few hotels and guesthouses offering accommodation to tourists who come to admire the spectacular sceneries.
Gimmelwald is one of those places that time seems frozen. You see farmers going about their daily routine, tending to their cows and small vegetable plots. Nobody seems to be in a hurry to go anywhere.
Visiting Gimmelwald
Gimmelwald is reached by the Schilthorn Cable Car. It is between Stechelberg downhill and Mürren uphill. The cable car continues on until the summit of Schilthorn.
