Grindelwald is a village in the district of Interlaken-Oberhasli, in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. It covers 171.1 sq km (66.1 sq mi) and has a population of about 4,000 people (2011 estimate). The village is at an average elevation of 1,034 m (3,392 ft) in the Bernese Alps, under the towering peaks of the Wetterhorn, Mettenberg and Eiger.
Grindelwald has made a name for itself as a winter tourist destination. It has ski slopes for all levels of experience, from beginners to advanced, as well as other winter activities for non-skiers such as tobogganing and hiking.
Visiting Grindelwald
You can reach Grindelwald by taking the Berner Oberland train from Interlaken. The journey is just slightly more than half an hour. Cars can also reach the village. From Interlaken, the country road heads east along the Lütschen valley to Grindelwald.
