The Golden Phoenix Chinese Restaurant at Hotel Equatorial Penang is noted for their dim sum. The restaurant has a menu offering a wide range of dim sum dishes which they update from time to time.
At Golden Phoenix's latest menu update, which took place in June 2016, I had the pleasure of trying out a selection of the dim sum, and at the same time, get to meet the team involved, which includes Mr Albert Jan Van Beusekom, the Director of Food & Beverage; Dim Sum Chef Jamil bin Uloh; Golden Phoenix Outlet Manager Miss Julia Tang; and Executive Chinese Chef Denis Wong. Seated with me is my host, Hotel Equatorial Penang Public Relations Executive, Miss Gillian Tan.
What a glorious spread I enjoyed that day! They include the Hor Yip Fan 荷叶饭 (steamed glutinous rice in lotus leaf), the Bo Choi Gao 香蒜菠菜饺 (steamed prawn and spinach dumplings), the Dai zi Gao 香茜鲜带子饺 (steamed scallop and prawn dumplings topped with coriander), the Char Siew Soo 蜜汁叉烧酥 (baked BBQ chicken puffs), Shanghai Bao 上海生煎包 (pan-fried Shanghai buns with chicken, prawns and vegetables), Nam Gua Gao 鲜虾南瓜饺 (steamed prawn dumplings with pumpkin), Shanghai Chinese Pancake with red bean paste or lotus seeds paste 上海锅饼(红豆/莲蓉), Mok Gua Sai Mai Lo 鲜奶木瓜西米露 (chilled papaya with sago and milk) and Na Yao Kuo Zhi Si Dan Ko 酪梨芝士蛋糕 (chilled avocado cheesecake).

What a fantastic lunch it was, aptly finished off with the Avocado Cheesecake and Chilled Papaya with sago and milk. I could hardly move after the meal, and I thank Hotel Equatorial Penang for having invited me for this food review. I certainly enjoyed it tremendously.
The dim sum at Golden Phoenix is available à la carte. However, if you are booking for a large group, then the restaurant can arrange buffet-style spreads for your group.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
