Lister Memorial Arch, Kuala PilahLister Memorial Arch, Kuala Pilah (9 July, 2016)

Lister Memorial Arch (GPS: 2.74175, 102.24847) is a memorial erected to honour Martin Lister, the British Resident of Negeri Sembilan. Lister arrived in Malaya in 1883, and took up the position as Revenue Collector for the British in 1886. At that time, the state was known as Sri Menanti Federation.

Lister was instrumental in bringing an end to clan riots between the various groups of Chinese miners in the area. The arch honouring him was erected in 1897, possibly after he had passed away that same year, having contracted blood poisoning. He died as his ship was passing through the Suez Canal, on its way to England.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
