Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan King George V (GPS: 2.71869, 101.9446) is a national secondary school in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. It is located along Jalan Za'aba. The school traces its roots back to 15 January, 1923, when it was founded and was originally known as the Government English School, or GES. Initial classes were held in a railway store at Sungai Ujong, where it was renamed the King George V School.
The first building of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan King George V was completed in 1927. It is located on Hose Road, which is today called Jalan Za'aba. It was officiated by the Colonial Secretary, W.G. Ormsby Gore, in the presence of the Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan and other dignitaries including Sir Hugh Clifford, the High Commissioner of the Federated Malay States and Governor of the Straits Settlements.1
The first headmaster of the King George V School was Mr Chin Meow Cheong. He was assisted by nine teachers. The initial intake comprised only 125 pupils from the Malay community. To cater to pupils having to go to school by train, the school timetable was originally arranged in accordance to the train schedule. It was only revised in the 1930s, when the principal was E.H. Wilson, with the new school hours running from 8:00 am in the morning, and ending at 1:00 pm in the afternoon.
Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan King George V counts a few noted personalities among its alumni, including Datuk Dr Fong Chan Onn, the former Minister of Human Resources, Prof. Datuk. Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
