Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque (GPS: 3.07826, 101.52157) is the main mosque in Shah Alam, Selangor. It is presently the biggest mosque in the country, and the second biggest in Southeast Asia, after the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta.
Construction of the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque began in 1982, and the mosque was opened on 11 March, 1988. The mosque has a central cup-shaped dome which is the largest dome on a religious building in the world. The dome is 51.2m (167ft) in diameter and is 106.7m (350ft) in height at the central spire. The prayer hall is surrounded by four minarets in a quincunx arrangement with the dome. Each minaret has a height of 142.3m (460ft), making them the second tallest minarets in the world, after the minaret of the Hassan II Mosque of Casablanca, which is 210m (689ft) in height. Due to the colour of the cup-shaped dome, the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque is often called the Blue Mosque.
