Murray Bridge is a city in southeastern South Australia. With a population of 14,000 people (2012 estimate), it is the fourth biggest city in the state after Adelaide, Mount Gambier and Whyalla. It is about 76 km (47 mi) to the southeast of Adelaide.

The history of Murray Bridge goes back to 1830, when Charles Sturt became the first European to explore the area. Before the settlement was established, the area was home to the Ngarrindjeri tribe of indigenous people, who called the site Pomberuk.

The settlement was originally known as Mibilong. It was renamed Edwards Crossing before arriving at the present name in 1924. The namesake bridge across the Murray River was first built in 1879. A railway line was built across that bridge in 1886. In 1925, a separate bridge was built for trains. Since the completion of the Swanport Bridge for the South Eastern Freeway in 1979, volume on the Murray Bridge has reduced somewhat.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
