Maupiti is a small volcanic island embraced by a coral atoll in French Polynesia. It is the westernmost volcanic island in the Leeward Islands. The main island has a total area of 11 sq km and supports a population of some 1,200 people (2011 estimate).

Surrounding the main island of Maupiti is the coral atoll. It comprises flat coral islands on the northern half. Sandbars line the southwestern and southeastern sides of the atoll. At the southern end are two reef islets, or motus, with a reef passage in between them, enabling boats to pass through towards the main island.

Maupiti is not developed for tourism. The main industry here is in the growing of noni which is then sent to Papeete for processing.
