Tauranga is a city on the coast of the Bay of Plenty, on the northern part of North Island, New Zealand. Covering 168 sq km (64.9 sq mi), it has a population of 114,000 people (2011 estimate), making it the biggest city in the region. It is also one of the fastest growing cities in the country, surpassing Dunedin in 2008 to become the sixth largest city in New Zealand.
Tauranga is on the western part of the Bay of Plenty, in a location sheltered by Matakana Island. It experiences a warm, subtropical climate. The warmest month here is January, when the average high temperature rises to 23.9°C (75°F). June is the coldest month, when the average low temperature drops to 6°C (43°F). March and June are the wettest months of the year, each receiving some 128 mm (5.04 in) of rain.
Inhabited by the Maoris since the 12th century, the Tauranga area saw its first European in the 1820s. A Protestant mission station was established here in 1835 followed by a Catholic mission in 1840. Today Tauranga is at the heart of a farming district that produces fruits such as avocados and kiwi. In recent years it has also begun producing wines.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
