Nyonya Buffet at Terrace Bay Restaurant, Copthorne Orchid Hotel (21 May 2016)
Terrace Bay Restaurant is the main restaurant at Copthorne Orchid Hotel. It is one of the hotel restaurants that offer a Nyonya Food buffet every weekend. The buffet has been going on since 2011.
My wife and I went there to try out the buffet on Saturday, 21 May, 2016. In fact we had wanted to try it a week before, but the restaurant was fully booked. During our visit, I saw that even though the Nyonya buffet has been doing on for years, the response was still very good, with practically every table taken.

Diners going through the food island to select the various Nyonya dishes (21 May 2016)
As soon as we arrived, we were warmly ushered to our table. After that we were greeted by Miss Julie Ch'ng, the Personal Assistant to the General Manager. It was Julie who had so kindly arranged the meal for us. Shortly after, Mr Fauzi, the F&B Manager, and Mr Mano, the chef, also came over the greet us.

Terrace Bay Restaurant offers quite a wide selection of Nyonya dishes. At just RM35 nett per adult (and RM21 nett per child), this is just about the most value-for-money hotel buffet in town. On one side, there is the acar and salad dishes, with a selection of sambal and cincaluk dips. The main dishes are arrayed around a food island. Of the many items, the one that stood out for me is the jiu hu char (julienned turnip stir fried with cuttlefish floss).
Further away, along the side, are various Nyonya sweet desserts such as bee koh moy (black glutinous rice broth) and cendol. Next to them is pai tee, also called "Top Hat". These are crispy shells which you fill with a mix of thinly sliced turnips.
Further on another side of the dining hall are the various Nyonya kuih such as the kuih bengka, kuih lapis, pulut tatai, seri muka, and so on.

My wife and I had a very nice meal at this Nyonya Buffet. We wish we have bigger appetites, but even as it is, we have eaten until we were very full.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
