Lotus's Tanjung Pinang (GPS: 5.4588, 100.30867) is a new hypermarket in Tanjong Tokong, on the northeastern part of Penang Island. Described with a working name of Tesco Tanjong Tokong, the new hypermarket is located at the junction of Jalan Tanjong Tokong and Jalan Tanjung Pinang. It is built on reclaimed land that is now a new development called Tanjung Pinang.
Lotus's Tanjung Pinang is the third Tesco hypermarket on Penang Island after Lotus's Penang and Tesco Extra Sungai Dua. It is also the fifth Tesco hypermarket in Penang State, including the ones at Seberang Jaya and Bukit Mertajam. This will be the first hypermarket on the northern part of Penang Island, and I am sure many people living in the area are eagerly awaiting its arrival.
Lotus's Tanjung Pinang is expected to provide an immediate challenge to nearby supermarkets such as Cold Storage at Island Plaza and Gurney Plaza. It may also impact Straits Quay, either positively or negatively. The positive aspect is that people visiting one will also visit the other, hence the spillover effect. One the other hand, there may be those who head for Tesco and bypass the coastal mall all together. It all depends on the type of customer and their needs.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
