1, Penang Road1, Penang Road (5 August 2011)

1, Penang Road (GPS: 5.42263, 100.33547) is a historical building along Upper Penang Road, Penang. It is one of the properties of Boon Siew Sdn Bhd, although only part of the façade was retained. 1 Penang Road today houses MOIS Club, a dance club.

1 Penang Road is believed to have been the residence of Madam Chen Cui-fen, the second wife3 (other sources puts it as the fouth wife and some as his mistress) of Dr Sun Yat-sen (the other wives being Lu Muzhen, Kaoru Otsuki and Soong Ching-ling).1 Madam Chen stayed at 1 Penang Road in 1912, after she returned with Dr Sun from Macau, where his first wife Lu Muzhen had a home. The house in Macau is today the Sun Yat-sen Memorial House.

According to Adam Vancouver2, the house was built by the early 20th century millionaire Khoo Sian Ewe, who called it townhouse. It was to replace his house Sun Beam at Light Street which was destroyed by World War II bombing.
