Hurghada (Arabic: الغردقة) is a beautiful resort on the Red Sea coast in Egypt. With a population of 250,000 (2011 estimate), it is one of the major cities in Egypt and is a truly amazing place. The weather here is beautiful which means that this is a destination that you will be able to visit at any time of the year and have almost guaranteed sunshine.

Many of the hotels in Hurghada line the coastline and this means that whether you stay in a 5 star hotel or a 2 star one you will always be very close to the sea and the beautiful beaches that Hurghada has to offer. There are many luxury hotels here, lots with private beaches, and you will be able to take part in some wonderful aquatic sports here too all without barely venturing out of your hotel.

The opportunities here for diving and snorkelling are vast and there are beautiful schools of fish just waiting to be discovered in the ocean here. The waters are crystal clear, usually calm and the waves have a crispness to them that just makes them deliciously inviting on a hot Summers day. As well as snorkelling and diving you can also take part in various other more strenuous water activities such as jet skiing and deep sea fishing. It is also possible to take a boat trip or even hire your own boat here so you can visit some of the less populated diving areas.

The cuisine here is delicious and as well as finding local, freshly prepared cuisine you will find foods from around the World, many with an Egyptian twist to them. The fish dishes here, in particular, are amazing and are often caught and cooked in the same afternoon making them taste all the fresher. There are some amazing chefs at some of the more luxurious hotels and they are usually happy to cook new dishes to order providing they have the ingredients to hand and fussy eaters will be catered for well here also. After a busy day swimming, relaxing and taking part in water sports the hotels are a welcome retreat to retire back to and you can even have massages or visit the gym in some of the more luxurious hotels.

Another fantastic day out here is a submarine trip where you will travel down in the ocean and see, first hand, some of the amazing depths that this vast ocean has to it. This will allow you to see some beautiful marine life, sometimes including sharks, and be confident in the knowledge that you will remain safe and dry at all times. Once you have finished visiting the ocean you will be able to visit the desert and there is lots to do here including camel riding and quad biking.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
