The Delta and North Coast are the areas on the northern part of Egypt. The Delta fans out like a green broom between the two main branches of the Nile. It is the most fertile and densely populated parts of Egypt. Less well know than the monuments and ruins in the Nile Valley are those in the Nile Delta. Many ancient Egyptian dynasties have ruled this area, but much of their sites are now washed away.

Alexandria, the second largest city in Egypt, is located in the Delta. This city of 4.1 million people is older than Cairo, having been around since ancient times, when it was one of the most famous cities of the ancient world, renowned for its lighthouse, its library and the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa.

The northern coast of Egypt between Alexandria and the Libyan border has until recently been an inhospital terrain littered by World War II mines. As it faces a clear blue sea and is blessed with beautiful beaches, this north coast has seen the development of a few holiday resorts, with more in the pipeline.

Although the areas I describe here are quite off the usual tourist path, I hope that though my description, you will be interested to venture beyond the usual tourist sights and discover the Delta and North Coast of Egypt.
