Dodoma is the capital of Tanzania. it is located close to the geographical heart of the country, about 486 km to the west of Dar es Salaam. Located 1,120 m (3,675 ft) above sea level, Dodoma covers 2,576 sq km (994.6 sq mi) and has a population of 330,000 (2011 estimate).
The choice of Dodoma as the capital was made in 1973, and in the subsequent years, various government departments were relocated there. However, even today, there are some government offices remaining in the previous national capital, Dar es Salaam, which is the biggest city in the country and which continues to be its commercial capital.
Dodoma was established as a railway stop for the Tanzanian Central Railway. It remains a small outpost until chosen to be the new national capital. A master plan for the city was drawn up in 1986 under the auspices of the United Nations. However Dodoma continues to be a small city compared to Dar es Salaam.
Dodoma experiences a semi-arid climate, with annual precipitation of 570 mm (22 in). Despite its high altitude, it experiences relatively high temperature throughout the year. Daytime temperature ranges between 26°C and 31°C while night time temperature between 13°C and 18°C.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
