Gweru is a city near the geographic heart of Zimbabwe. With a population of 146,000 people (2012 estimate), it is presently the 5th largest city in the country.
Gweru was founded by Dr Leander Starr Jameson in 1894. The town developed as a center for chrome smelting. It also has one of the biggest cattle rearing areas in the country.
