Ah Cheng Cafe Loh Mee (GPS: 5.38906, 100.31233) is a lor mee stall at the Jelutong Market. It operates outside the coffee shop which calls itself Ah Cheng Cafe.
I have tried this lor mee several years back, when someone told me that it was his favourite lor mee. I remember that when I tried it before (in 2014), I did not really liked it, or at least, I did not like it as much as the other lor mee at Jelutong Market. (My favourite stall is the one across Ipoh Lane from the Indian temple.) However, as my favourite stall might see its days numbered (the hawker told me that she has leg pains and could not stand long), there is a danger that my favourite stall might close soon. Moreover, as this stall appears to be getting a lot of customers - partly because it is at a more prominent location - I thought that I may have misjudged it. So, I decided to give it another try.
The lor mee comes in several sizes - RM4.00, RM4.50 and RM5.00. I decided to order two bowls of the RM5.00, so that the stall can "give me its best shot". This is how it looks like:

I am sorry to say that, having tried it once more, I still do not like it as much as my favourite stall. There are several reasons why this stall compared less favourably to my favourite stall. Firstly, even at RM5, the portion size is still smaller than at my favourite stall, where the lor mee is cheaper and the portion size bigger.
Secondly, I do not see any char siew, pig skin or intestines (hun1chiang2) at this stall, and they only offers one or two pieces of chicken feet. So, my favourite stall is more "ho liau".
And thirdly, and perhaps more importantly, the gravy of my favourite stall is more agreeable to my taste. The only way I can describe the "lor" here is that it is "less tasty".
Naturally, these are all my personal opinion and preference, and I would invite people to try both stalls and choose the one they like most.

Once regarded as the working-class sister to George Town, now Jelutong has developed into a major residential neighbourhood, and home to a lot of good hawker food. Let the food lovers at Hawker Food Planet show you what's good to eat there.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
