Ever since the popular Ah Soon Kor Har Mee stall relocates to its own independent coffee shop on Perak Road, I have been eagerly looking forward to visiting it. As my wife and I usually go there for our Hokkien Mee on Saturday mornings, we planned the first Saturday morning since it opened there to pay it a visit.
We were aware that the Ah Soon Kor Har Mee Coffee Shop is located just a short distance from the very popular Hokkien Mee at Kedai Kopi Classic, and were unsure how we would ever find parking space, as that stretch of Perak Road becomes the "Penang Hokkien Mee destination".
To our surprise, Kedai Kopi Classic was closed. We thought we saw something amiss the previous week, when we passed by and saw that Kedai Kopi Classic was also closed. We wondered what was the news at that coffee shop. Surely a Hokkien Mee stall that popular could not be closed permanently. Or could it? Perhaps it has moved away permanently, to One Corner Cafe?
Kedai Kopi Classic, famous for its Hokkien Mee, was closed, so we parked right in front of it. (2 May 2015)
In any case, even if the Hokkien Mee at Kedai Kopi Classic closed permanently, it is no great loss to me, as it has never been among my favourites. I was actually hoping to see the two big Hokkien Mee in Penang go head to head on Perak Road, and so hope that the closure at Kedai Kopi Classic would not be permanent.
Anyway, as Classic was close, we found a parking space right in front of it. It's a red signboard area, meaning we have to put parking coupon even on Saturday morning. From there, it's just a few shoplots away to Ah Soon Kor Har Mee.
Ah Soon Kor was busy at his stall when we arrived. The coffee shop was already quite crowded, with almost every table taken, but we managed to get a vacant table.

We placed our order for the big bowl, which is our usual order. Unlike some Hokkien Mee places where you may have to wait for more than half an hour, over here we received our orders in less than 10 minutes, and this is how it looks like.

The Hokkien Mee is as ho1liau33 as ever. It has shrimps, mantis prawns, sio3bak3 (roasted pork), spareribs, meat, boiled egg and kangkung. If you want the traditional Hokkien Mee without all the luxury ingredients, then ask Ah Soon Kor to make for you a bowl with only the shrimps and kangkung.

As far as I'm concerned, Ah Soon Kor Har Mee retains its top position (the A+ ranking) as my favourite Hokkien Mee in Penang, as of 2 May, 2015. Of course, every future visit is a reevaluation and comparison with other Hokkien Mee in Penang. One additional thing I like about having the Hokkien Mee here is that the drinks are cheaper than at its former location, Sin Kim Sun Coffee Shop. The kopi-o peng here is much cheaper and is also quite tasty compared to over there. So that's another plus point.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
