Air Itam Tua Pek Kong Gateway (18 January 2009)
Air Itam Tua Pek Kong Gateway (GPS: 5.40208, 100.27678) is a beautiful, ornate Chinese temple archway. It marks the entrance to the
Air Itam Tua Pek Kong Temple. It has sloping roof ridges that are characteristic of the Hokkien temple architecture of southern China. The gateway was erected in 1931, a gift from philanthropist brothers Aw Boon Haw and Aw Boon Par.
It is a pity that so far the Air Itam Tua Pek Kong Gateway has remained overlooked despite its aesthetic significance in the village. But on the other hand, perhaps it is a good thing that the archway remains untouched by any sloppy attempts to paint over it. As of now, the archway is well preserve and bears most of its original ornamentation.
