Ali Ameir Nasi Kandar is a popular nasi kandar restaurant in Jelutong, Penang. Originally, it operated at a Chinese coffee shop further down Jalan Jelutong, across from the junction with Jalan Tan Sri Teh Ewe Lim, but moved to its own premises early 2013 when that coffee shop ceased operations, to make way for development.

Even in its new spot, Ali Ameir Nasi Kandar attracts a lot of customers, and people waiting to give their orders often form a long queue in front of the stall. Most of these are people who are ordering takeaways, while in-house customers simply make their order and then proceed to find a place to sit.

It's been a long time since I had the nasi kandar at Ali Ameir, but today my wife "approves" our having breakfast there. I ordered the nasi kandar with fish, beef, boiled egg and bendi (ladies fingers). And kuah banjir (a drenching of gravy). It was perfect!

Nasi Kandar Ali Ameir (1 June 2013)


I have been to Ali Ameir Nasi Kandar only once. Not confident that my order would be promptly served if I simply gave it and took a seat, I decided to join the queue until it reaches my turn. My order was politely though swiftly taken and the amount paid only after I have had my meal.

How do I evaluate the taste? It's not bad. I prefer the taste here compared to the other nasi kandar restaurants along the same stretch of Jalan Jelutong. But nevertheless, it isn't the same as the nasi kandar taste that I am accustomed to when growing up. That is something that has become elusive of late. Still, Ali Ameir Nasi Kandar is, as said, not bad.

Getting there

The nearest bus stop along Jalan Jelutong is served by Rapid Penang bus 301, 302, 303 and 401.
