Dean's Blue Hole is the deepest underwater sinkhole in the world. It is located in a bay to the west of Clarence Town in Long Island, Bahamas. The hole is 663 ft (202 m) deep, and is filled with seawater. Surrounding it is sandy sea bottom. As the sea here is usually very clear, the blue hole appears as a dark blue patch in the sea.

Dean's Blue Hole is under 6 m (18 ft) of sea. It is visible from the surface, due to clarity of the seawater. The walls of the hole are almost vertical. There are no marine life within the hole except for an occasional shark.

Although Dean's Blue Hole is regarded as the deepest underwater sinkhole, there are other water-filled sinkholes that are deeper, including Zacatón (335 m, 1,099 ft) in Mexico and Pozzo del Merro (392 m, 1,286 ft) in Italy. It is however the deepest with its entrance under the sea.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
