British Colonial Hilton Nassau is one of the most luxurious hotels in Nassau, Bahamas. This five-star establishment was first built in 1901, on the site of the 19th century Old Fort of Nassau, which was demolished in 1873. Previous to that, the site was where the first settlement was established in Nassau in 1666.

The British Colonial Hilton Nassau is today regarded as the Grand Dame of all Nassau hotels, being the most elegant and most expensive hotel in town. It is also the only one with its own private beach.
The history of the British Colonial Hilton Hotel goes back to 1900, when American real estate tycoon Henry Morrison Flagler bought the land and built a wooden hotel on the site. In 1922, the original hotel was destroyed in a fire. The government of The Bahamas then bought the land back and built the 7-story Grand Hotel. It was completed within 6 months, and opened to business in 1923.
In 1939 the Grand Hotel was later bought by Sir Harry Oakes, an influential figure who was also a friend to the Duke of Windsor. He renamed it the British Colonial Hotel. Oakes was murdered at his home in Nassau in 1943. In 1999, Barron Hilton bought the hotel and renamed it the British Colonial Hilton Nassau.
The British Colonial Hilton Nassau is associated with two James Bond movies starring Sean Connery, Thunderball (1965) and Never Say Never Again (1983). Suite 007 at the hotel has an ocean view. It is furnished with Bond memorabilia.
Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
