The Pantanal Conservation Area comprises four protected areas in Brazil. They total 187,818 hectares in size, representing 1.3% of the Pantanal region, which is the world's largest freshwater wetland ecosystem. Within the area are the headwaters of two major rivers, the Cuiabá and the Paraguay. The area is noted for its rich vegetation and animal life.

Pantanal Conservation Area was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 24th session of the World Heritage Committee which met in Cairns, Australia from 27 November to 2 December, 2000.

Your base for visiting this World Heritage Site is Sao Paulo, the biggest city in Brazil. From there, you can make the arrangement, either on your own or through a travel agency, to go there.

How to get there

The gateway to Pantanal is Corumbá. There are flights to Corumbá from other Brazilian cities.
