Belleville is a city in Southern Ontario, Canada. It is located at the mouth of the Moira River, within the Quebec City-Windsor Corridor. It covers 247.21 sq km (95.45 sq mi) and has a population of 49,500 people (2012 estimate). The city serves as county seat for Hastings County.
Before the Belleville area was settled by Europeans, it was the site of a native village known as Asukhknosk. The earliest Europeans to settle in the area were Loyalists who relocated out of the United States following British defeat in the American Revolutionary War. They originally named the site Meyer's Creek, after industrialist John Walden Meyers. Hoever in 1816 it was renamed Belleville in honor of Lady Arabella Gore, wife of British colonial administrator Sir Francis Gore.
Construction of the Grand Trunk Railway helped to spur the development of Belleville. By the second half of the 19th century, the city was builting handsome civic buildings, including the Victorian Gothic City Hall of 1872.
Today Belleville is home to a number of multi-national corporations including Procter & Gamble, Kellogg's and Sears.

Take Highway 401 heading east out of Toronto to reach Belleville. It is about 1.5 hours away.
