Brantford is a city in Southern Ontario, Canada. Though surrounded by Brant County, it is independent from it. The city is located on the Grand River. It covers 72.47 sq km (27.98 sq mi) and has a population of 94,000 people (2012 estimate).
Before Brantford was established, the area was the site of a village of the Attawandaron tribe, also called the Neutral nation. That village was destroyed by the Iroquois during a war in 1650.
The present city dates back to settlement founded in 1784 by Loyalist led by Captain Joseph Brant and Six Nation Indians. They were given land by the British authorities in recognition of their loyalty to the British Crown. It was incorporated as a city in 1877.
Brantford experienced growth and prosperity in the first half of the 20th century. It was one of the top three cities in Canada in terms of cash value of manufactured goods. But by the 1980s, the city went into decline as one after another, its local manufacturers faced collapse and bankruptcies. To reverse the downturn, Highway 403 was built connecting it with Hamilton and Toronto, offering improved access and incentive for businesses to relocate there.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
