Chatham-Kent is a unitary authority on the northern shore of Lake Erie, in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. It covers 2,458 sq km (949 sq mi) and has a population of 104,000 people (2012 estimate). It was created in 1998 by merging Kent County with its municipalities, and includes the towns or neighborhoods of Blenheim, Chatham, Dresden, Ridgetown, Tilbury and Wallaceburg.
The city of Chatham, the precursor to today's Chatham-Kent, was founded in the 1790s. It was named after Chatham, in Kent, England. It was one of the towns within the Underground Railroad, a network of routes and safe houses used by blacks to escape from slavery.

Kent County comprised the towns of Camden, Chatham, Dover, Harwich, Orford, Raleigh, Romney, Tilbury East and Zone. It was amalgamated to the city of Chatham in 1998, creating the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. The Lower Thames River flows through the area into Lake St. Claire.
Today the primary industries in Chatham-Kent include agricultura and automotive. It is the birthplace of Hank Chrysler, the father to Walter P. Chrysler, who founded the Chrysler car company. The world's largest auction house for vintage automobiles is also located here, in Blenheim.

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
