Coquitlam is a city in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada. It spans over 122.3 sq km (47.22 sq mi) and has a population of 126,000 people (2012 estimate). Coquitlam is one of the 21 municipalities within Metro Vancouver.
For thousands of years, the Coquitlam area was inhabited by the Coast Salish people. The name Coquitlam is said to mean "red fish up the river" in the Coast Salish language. In 1808, explorer Simon Fraser became the one of the first Europeans to settle in the area. The village grew into a municipality towards the end of the 19th century, as lumber mills were built along the north bank of the Fraser River.
Coquitlam began to urbanized in the post World War II decades. Over time the towns of Coquitlam merged with Fraser Mill, forming one large city. The last of Coquitlam's lumber mills closed down in 2001, as the area around it developed into a residential neighborhood.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
