Niagara Falls is a city on the Niagara River in Ontario, Canada. It covers 209.71 sq km (80.97 sq mi) and has a population of 83,000 people (2012 estimate). The city is right across the river from Niagara Falls, New York. Both are of course named after the famous Niagara Falls.
Before the first European arrived, the Niagara Falls area was inhabited by the Iroquois tribe. French priest Louis Hennepin is regarded as the first European to arrive at Niagara Falls, in the 1670s.
The present city of Niagara Falls was originally called Clifton when it was incorporated in 1856. It changed its name to Niagara Falls in 1881. The following year, the community of Drummondville also incorporated itself, but as the village of Niagara Falls, creating a village and a town by that name, on the Canadian side of the border. These two were merged and reincorporated in 1904 as the City of Niagara Falls. (Separately, on the U.S. side, the City of Niagara Falls in New York State was incorporated in 1892.)
Niagara Falls is 130 km (81 mi) from Toronto. It experiences a humid continental climate. July is the warmest month here, with average high temperature of 27.2°C (81°F). January is the coldest month, when the average low temperature drops to -7.9°C (17.8°F). September receives the most rain while January the most snow.

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
