Saguenay is a city in Saquenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec. It covers 1,166 sq km (450.2 sq mi) and has a population of 145,000 people (2012 estimate). The city is located on the Saguenay River, about 200 km (120 mi) north of Quebec City.
The City of Saguenay was created in 2002 by merging three existing cities, Chicoutimi, Jonquière, La Baie and Laterrière, along with the municipalities of Lac-Kénogami and Shipshaw, and part of the township of Tremblay. The city is then split into three boroughs namely Chicoutimi (comprising the former Chicoutimi, Laterrière and Tremblay), Jonquière (comprising the former Jonquière, Lac-Kénogami and Shipshaw), and La Baie (comprising the former La Baie). The borough of Chicoutimi is the most populous borough of Saguenay.
The majority of the people in Saguenay speak French as their mother tongue (98.1%), followed by English (0.9%). As with the rest of Quebec, French is the sole official language. 96% of the population identify themselves as Roman Catholic.

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
