Winnipeg is the provincial capital and largest city in Manitoba, Canada. It is located at the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers. The city and its metropolitan area has a population of around 700,000, which represents some sixty percent of the population of Manitoba.

In 1738 a French officer arrived in the area. The Frenchmen settling in the area intermarried with the local women, creating the Métis, a group of indigenous people with mixed European and First Nations parentage.

Winnipeg is located at the bottom of the Red River Valley. it is the coldest city in the world with a population above 600,000. Its temperature tends to be extreme, with bitter cold winters and hot summers. Warmest months are July and August, when average high of the day reaches 26°C while coldest month is January, when temperature drops to -23°C. The city is the second sunniest city in Canada, and also second for clearest skies.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
