Cartagena is a town in San Antonio Province, Valparaíso Region, Chile. It covers 245.9 sq km (95 sq mi) and has a population of around 17,000 (2011 estimate). This hillside town overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It has winding streets and dainty houses. At the coast is an esplanade called La Terraza de Cartagena, lined with shops and restaurants, where visitors and enjoy watching the surf crashing to the rocky shore. There is also a Shrine to Our Lady of Sighs nearby.
Cartagena has become quite a popular domestic travel destination in Central Chile. Between late spring and early autumn, the beaches at Cartagena can get quite crowded as vacationers descend on it from Santiago and Valparaíso.
