Loja, or Ciudad de la Inmaculada Concepción de Loja, is a city in southern Ecuador. It serves as the provincial capital of its namesake province. The city covers 1,883 sq km (727 sq mi) and has a population of 185,000 people (2011 estimate), within a metropolitan area of 215,000 people. It is 2,100 m (6,889 ft) above sea level.
Loja is noted for its rich tradition in the arts, and is recognized as the Music & Cultural Capital of Ecuador. The city was founded by Field Marshal Alonso de Mercadillo in 1548, and took its name from his hometown Loja, in Spain.
Due to its high elevation, Loja enjoys a mild Andean climate, which is a subtropical highland climate. Temperatures tend to be quite uniform throughout the year, with greater variation between day and night than between seasons. March is the wettest month, receiving 126.9 mm (4.998 in) of rainfall.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
